Bahrain tries 11 for Nuwaidrat arms seize case
Manama: The High Criminal Court yesterday started hearing the trial of eleven men, aged 20 to 35, accused of possessing over a tonne of foreign “military grade” weapons and explosives, which were seized from a warehouse in Nuwaidrat.
However, only seven of them are in custody, while the rest are still at large and are being tried in absentia. All of them are accused of establishing and being part of a terrorist group, possessing weapons and explosives and training in them.
Only five of the detainees appeared yesterday before the High Criminal Court, and they appealed not guilty.
Four of the accused have reportedly received militia training at camps linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah Brigades group in Iraq.
More than 1.5 tonnes of high-grade explosives, including C4-RDX, TNT and other powerful chemical explosives were seized in the counter-terrorism operation on September 30 last year.
The defendants’ trial was adjourned until March 23.
