Jaw Prison bribery witnesses to testify on March 23
Manama: Defence witnesses will testify on March 23 in the trial of a prison guard accused of accepting bribe.
The accused, Asian origin, reportedly smuggled a phone as well as nuts and Viagra pills and gave it to an inmate in Jaw Prison. The illicit act came to light following a tip-off received by the police
The guard was found to have received an iPhone 6, two Samsung phones and BD2,370 from the inmate’s brother in exchange of smuggling the aforementioned items for him inside the jail.
According to the court documents, the inmate promised to gift a house and a car to the prison guard if he smuggled the items for him.
The inmate and his brother are also standing trial in this case, after being charged of abetting the crime.
“I was upset a bit, and when the inmate saw me he asked me why I was looking sad,” the guard told the prosecutors earlier. “I told him that I wasn’t comfortable with my job in Jaw Prison after which he told me that he has connections with people who can transfer me to another location,” he said.
“He requested me to call his brother who later gave me phones and money to bring him inside the jail. He also manipulated me by promising to gift me a house and a car,” he added.
The brother, however, denied knowing anything about the inmate’s plans to smuggle the items inside the jail with the help of the accused.
