Bahrain Airport Co kicks off anti-smoking drive
In close co-operation with the Ministry of Health, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), launched an Anti-Smoking Campaign in compliance with the Royal decree 08/2009.
In light of the surge in construction activity on the new BIA Passenger Terminal Building and the overall Airport Modernisation Programme, the campaign focuses on protecting the health of public against passive smoking.
BIA’s first ever anti-smoking campaign was commemorated with an opening ceremony at BIA and was attended by key representatives from the airport community and the Ministry of Health.
This campaign is supported by MoH and organised by BAC, in collaboration with its airport partners.
The campaign builds on three key pillars: promoting the no smoking policy at BIA, educating staff and stakeholders on the effects of passive smoking and encouraging the Airport staff and passengers to comply with it.
Chief Airport Operations Officer at Bahrain Airport Company Mohamed Thamir Al Kaabi said, “The ultimate success is dependent on all of us working together with the common purpose of ensuring health and safety for everyone at BIA and the environment in which we operate.
The campaign included a series of activities such as measurement of height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, Carbon Monoxide and examination of lungs.
A display of prohibited tobacco products and an explanation of the laws regarding smoking and tobacco were provided as part of the awareness campaign.
Workers and volunteers from the airport, as well as staff from the Ministry of Health distributed anti-smoking brochures to passengers at gate 13 where the event took place.
