Bahrain steal the show
Manama : Six Bahrainis were crowned champions in the recently concluded Bahrain Drag Racing Championship after the 2015/2016 season came to a thrilling end over the weekend with the fifth and final round held at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.
The winners in all 14 competition categories were determined at the finale, with six being among the Kingdom’s best home-grown talent.
New champions included Adel Hassan in the Street 4 and 6 category, Mohammed Mubarak in the Outlaw Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD), Hammed Al Murbati in the Super Street 6-Cylinder, Salah Salahuddin in the Street V8, Khaled Mohammed in the Super Street V8 and Raed Batti in the Index 10.5 class. They are joined by some of the Gulf’s best drag racing talent as champions in seven other categories, with four winners from Kuwait and three from Saudi Arabia.
Abdulla Alsory in the Outlaw 10.5, Bader Korshaid in the Pro Mod, Masfer Al Masfer in the Street Bike and Mashal Al Saber in the Pro Bike were all among the triumphant Kuwaiti contingent.
For the Saudis the winners were Moslem Algallaf in the Competition 4.5 class, Mashari Al Turki in the Super Street Bike and Abdulla Munif in the Index Bike 9.50, while American Garry White and a member of Ebrahim K Kanoo Racing Team from Bahrain, triumphed in the Outlaw 6-Cylinder class.
Each of the newly crowned champions were honoured in an end-of-season closing and awarding ceremony on Saturday evening at BIC and received their respective “Wally” trophies.
BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa was on hand to give away the prizes, as were Bahrain Drag Racing Club President Fahad Taqi and Bahrain Motorcycle Club President Isa Al Awadhi.
Several champions closed the season out on a winning note, clinching first place in their category during action in round five and they included Al Murbati, Salahuddin, Alsory, Al Masfer in both the Street Bike and Super Street Bike, Al Munif and White.
Other winners were Mohamed Aljalhma in the Street 4 and 6, Zakaria Ahmed in the Outlaw FWD, Talal Othman in the Super Street V8, Jaber Almagrabi in the Competition 4.5, Mustafa Al Atat in the Pro Mod, Mashal Al Saber in the Pro Bike, and Ebrahim Khalil in the Index 10.5.
The season’s final round was organised by BIC in cooperation with the BDRC and the Bahrain Motor Federation.
