DT News had yesterday reported that a Bahraini teenager stabbed his friend to death during the wee hours of March 9 dawn in Halat Bumaher area in Muharraq.
Interior Ministry had stated at around 3:30am that “a youngster was killed and two others were injured in a stabbing incident in Muharraq,” adding that the “the concerned authorities are investigating the incident.”
Twelve hours later, the ministry confirmed the arrest of the killer in a statement.
The case was reported by the hospital that admitted the patient with stab wounds. The victim, 21, died at the hospital. The police rushed to the scene and collected evidence as part of the legal proceedings.
Halat Bumaher residents told DT News that the victim's name was Abdulqader Al Kooheji. His body was buried at the Muharraq Cemetery.
According to residents Abdulqader and the accused, 19-year-old Fahad Rebee’a, were actually friends. They planned to meet up to sort out a disagreement between them.
Abdulqader met Fahad near his relatives’ house, located on Road 1612, Block 216. The accused was waiting alone, but the deceased came along with three friends.
Abdulqader was playing with a knife at the time. This provoked Fahad to grab the knife from him. He then stabbed Abdulqader thrice on the legs, once on his stomach and twice on the back, splashing his blood all over the concrete. He also injured Abdulqader’s friends in the attack, before fleeing the scene.
Some of the residents said that the disagreement is believed to be over drugs, but this information could not be verified.
They added that the victim was taken by one of his friends to King Hamad University Hospital, where he was declared dead.
When DT News visited the area, the rains had spread the victim’s blood all over the concrete at the crime scene, forcing residents to cover it with sand.
