Ex-colonel on trial for cheating Bahrain investors
Manama : An ex-colonel in the intelligence convicted of fraud will learn the fate of his appeal on April 4.
The defendant was earlier handed down three years for conning two investors, who were in search for a land plot to establish a shopping mall.
He is said to have sold them a land for BD2 million, but it turned out that he wasn’t the real owner of it.
“When we called him up for buying the land, he provided us with documents confirming his ownership to the land. He also demanded BD2 million to complete the deal,” one of the investors said.
“We gave him several cheques, and he requested us to add a local bank’s name as the beneficiary of the cheques. It was odd, but we agreed to conclude the deal,” he added. “After giving the amount, we headed with him to the notary to switch the ownership of the land.”
“But the procedure collapsed. Later, we tried to contact him, but he ignored our calls. We later found that he wasn’t the owner of the land,” he explained.
