Jail for woman who attacked Bahrain prison officers
Manama : Bahrain's High Criminal Appeals Court upheld the sentence issued against a woman convicted of assaulting police officers at the Jaw Prison.
Earlier, she was sentenced to six months behind the bars.
The Public Prosecution said in a statement earlier that the woman had hit a policeman on his head at the Jaw prison before policewomen intervened in a bid to calm her down.
The woman reportedly pelted a table and several chairs at them, but none of them got injured.
The incident took place while she was on a visit to her relatives, who were imprisoned in the Jaw Prison.
“I was on duty and was trying to deny one of the prisoners from seeing his family as he had violated the administrative instructions. He told me to go away and pushed me with his hands. His relative (the defendant) also intervened and took a file that was in my hand and threw it on me,” one of the victims told the prosecutors.
The statement of the Public Prosecution pointed out that the woman admitted to her offence before the prosecutors, as a result of which she was charged with attacking officers and damaging public
property.
