BTA junior tennis final round held

The second day of the BTA Junior Tennis Tournament, organised by Bahrain Tennis Academy (BTA) took place at the Dilmun Club, Saar with the final rounds of the 8 and 10 years and under and 10 followed by the preliminary rounds of the 12 years and under event.

In the 8 years and under category semi-finals, Boudica Verbeek defeated Hamza Moussa 7-1, 7-0 and Rushikesh Sonawane beat Ethan Emerson 7 6, 7-1.

In the final, second seed Boudica upset the top seed Rushikesh 7-6, 7-3.

In the 10 years and under category, quarter final action saw Boudica Verbeek, Tristan Manners, Lizzie Warrender and Faris Al Toobli win their respective matches to progress to the semi-finals.

In the first semi final Tristan defeated Boudica 4-1 while in the second semi-final Lizzie overcame Faris 4-3. In a closely contested final, Lizzie defeated Tristan 4-3.

The 12 years and under category players completed preliminary rounds in a round-robin format, which saw Essa Al Qattan, Hiroki Wakamatsu, Kazuma Miyawaki and Raj Singh top their respective groups and earning themselves a place in next weekend’s semi-finals. BTA and Tournament Director, Dan Barrie said, “We were thrilled to have 48 entries for this tournament and continuing to see participation and the standard of junior tennis rising.”

Next up will be the 14 years and under event as well as the 12 years and under semi-finals which are scheduled next Friday. Places are still available in the 14 years and under category.

10 years and under: 1) Lizzie Warrender, 2) Tristan Manners, 3) Faris Al Toobli, 4) Boudica Verbeek.
