Eight jailed for planting fake bombs

The High Criminal Court handed down eight men, five years each behind bars, for planting a fake bomb in Salmabad.

The defendants allegedly placed the device near burning tyres, but bomb experts later declared it as fake.

According to court files, the accused used electrical wires as well as plastic pipes with a tape to make the fake bomb.

The first and second defendants were busted following police investigations, and they, in turn, revealed the identities of their accomplices.

The first accused told prosecutors that he had invited the third, fourth and fifth defendants to participate in the event.

“We met at a deserted area carrying a petrol bottle and tyres. We headed to one of the roads and set the tyres on fire. We then placed the device near them to create panic,” the first defendant said.

They were charged with planting a fake bomb, arson and participating in an illegal gathering.
