Murder attempt on Bahrain cops : trial
Manama: Seventeen Bahraini men convicted of attempting to murder police officers have had their jail term reduced on appeal. The defendants received earlier sentences ranging between 15 and 10 years behind bars, but the Supreme Appeals Court gave all of them seven years in prison each instead.
The defendants were reportedly among the 400 protesters, who attacked police officers with firebombs, stones and iron rods in the village of Duraz on July 23 three years ago.
They also fired shots at police officers, causing injuries to three officers. The defendants’ involvement in the case had been identified, following police investigations. The police have seized several tools used in rioting from the defendants, according to court files.
The second defendant told prosecutors that he had participated in the incident upon the request of the first defendant.
