Rugby Club A clinch Netball Cup
Manama: Rugby Club A clinched the DHL Bahrain Expatriate League Netball Cup for a glorious season double with an 18-15 victory over British Club A in the final match which went into two five minute overtime last night at the British Club and concluding the season.
Triple league champions Rugby Club A captained by goal defence Helen Hind had a battle on their hands as the British Club A captained by goal shooter Martine Arends were level at 11-11 after the regulation time of two seven half halves and a minute break and then five minutes of overtime at 14-14.
British Club started on a positive note and went 2-0 ahead early on, they first went behind at 7-6 and then clawed back to lead 9-8 and trailing with the seconds ticking away secured a goal to force the first overtime play.
The first period of overtime play saw British Club 13-11 ahead but the league champions scored a last gasp goal to level at 14-14 to force a second period of overtime.
Injuries to two key players took its toll on the British Club and with the score at 15-15 the Rugby Club then scored three unanswered goals to secure the double.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Rugby Club A were comfortable 10-1 winners over British Club after leading 7-0 at the break and British Club A knocked out Dilmun Club 10-7 after holding a 5-2 lead at the break.
The Plate Final was a close affair with Dilmun Club A edging out British Club B 9-6 after holding a 6-3 half-time lead.
In the Shield Final, Dilmun Club B beat Sri Lanka Club 11-3 after going into the break 6-2 ahead.
Earlier, Dilmun Club B won 12-1 against Dilmun Club C to advance to the final after Sri Lanka Club received a walkover win from Rugby Club B.

Rugby Club A bt Dilmun Club C 19-1, British Club A bt Sri Lanka Club 19-3, British Club B bt Dilmun Club B 14-5.
