School student hurt after teacher assaults
Manama: Disciplinary actions have been taken against a teacher who broke a public school student’s tooth while manhandling him, it has been confirmed.
Education Ministry confirmed that it has acknowledged the case and legal procedures were instantly taken against the teacher.
“The teacher is being investigated and legal procedures will be taken against him,” the ministry stated, underlining that it prohibits physically or verbally assaulting pupils.
Additionally, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) stated yesterday that it’s “closely following the incident of assaulting a public school student and breaking his tooth in the occurrence.”
Reports said that the student broke his front tooth when the teacher shoved him against the classroom furniture.
NIHR said it is coordinating with the concerned departments in Education Ministry to stand on the details of the incident and the procedures taken against the teacher.
“NIHR will do what’s necessary to protect students’ rights, which are ensured by the constitution, national legislations and international agreements,” the institution said in a statement.
Online reports claimed that the boy was naughty and injured himself while fighting with another student. Yet, this information could not be verified.
No further information was available about the name of the school or the student’s identity.
