Brothers assaulting debt defaulter has jail term upheld

Manama: The Supreme Appeals Court has upheld the sentences issued against two brothers who assaulted a man over an unsettled debt.

The victim, aged 53, had reportedly borrowed BD4500 from the defendants, which he failed to pay back.

As a result, the duo attacked him, breaking his teeth and jaws and hurting his stomach.

He was admitted to incentive care unit at a local hospital, according to his wife who later informed police.

During investigation, it was revealed that the trio had been friends for almost seven years, and that the wife of the victim had already given them her 2002 Land Cruiser in exchange for the amount borrowed.

“I got tired of them, and gave them my car, which was worth more than BD4500,” the wife told prosecutors.

“On the day of the attack, they were waiting for him in front of our house. When he arrived, they assaulted him with a crutch. One of them then kicked him several times on his face, stomach and other areas,” she added.

The duo were handed one year behind bars each.
