Activists conduct study on domestic violence in Bahrain
Manama: A nationwide study to understand the nature and extend of domestic violence in Bahraini homes is being conducted by a prominent organisation.
The study is being organised by a team of activists and experts from Bahrain Youth Society’s Naseem Initiative, in partnership with Tafawuq Centre for Women and Gender.
They are reaching out to the Woman’s organisations as well as the centres against domestic violence across the nation to gather data. The study is part of a campaign titled ‘We respect her’.
Speaking to DT News, Naseem Initiative’s Enas Al Fardhan said six organisations and centres against domestic violence are collaborating for the study.
“The victims contact these organisations and file their grievances there. We are looking at what kind of abuse happens, how it develops and what the victims do about it. We want to compare our findings with the results of the previous survey and study we conducted,” she said.
She added that the initiative also aims to offer moral and emotional support to the victims.
“We are organising free of charge weekly mediation sessions, counselling sessions and more. Currently, we are not well placed to give make cash donations but we are trying to find ways to help people who need financial assistance. We try to collaborate with charities who may help them,” she said.
She added that the study will conclude in a week or two.
