Bahrain expat murdered for insulting Islam

Manama: In a gruesome incident, a Bangladeshi man killed his roommate, a Hindu man, by slitting his throat as he allegedly insulted Islam, the High Criminal Court heard yesterday.

The 29-year-old accused is said to have slit the throat of his colleague, who is also a Bangladeshi, with a knife after he stabbed him several times to death.

After the murder, he rushed to a nearby mosque and informed them that he had killed his roommate. He was later arrested after one of the worshipers called up police.

“He was covered with blood and holding a knife. He was abnormal and screaming. He said he killed a man. Some worshipers tried to calm him down. He sat down and cried,” a witness told prosecutors.

According to initial investigations, the man said that he committed the crime as his Hindu colleague was degrading Islam so often. “I told him several occasions to stop mocking Islam. But he didn’t pay heed to it,” the accused told prosecutors.

The murder, according to court files, occurred at dawn when both of them awoke. “He insulted the God, and I got angry. I rushed to the kitchen and took a big knife. Then I stabbed him in his body and neck,” he added.

The High Criminal Court has ordered for him to be detained for 15 days.
