Man jailed for attacking cop
Manama: The High Criminal Court has sentenced a Bangladeshi man to one year in prison for attacking two police officers.
The defendant, who was staying in Bahrain illegally, was arrested after he physically attacked a policeman, and insulted another one while he was in detention ahead of his expulsion from Bahrain.
“He was in detention with other men, who were scheduled to be deported because they were arrested without a valid permit to stay,” one of the victims told prosecutors earlier.
“When he was taken out of the cell, he demanded a ticket to be reserved for him soon so that he can return to his home. He insulted me, and when another officer passed by he attacked him,” he added.
The defendant admitted to his crime, and was charged with attacking two policemen. He will be deported once he completes his jail term.
