Bahrain’s Al Kowari becomes Junior champion

Manama:  Bahraini Ali Al Kowari (gross 154) became Bahrain’s 2016 Junior Open Champion after winning the two-day event in the under-16 division, while Saud Al Sharif (158) won the under 21 age category and was second overall at the Royal Golf Club.

Around 40 youngsters competed in the prestigious competition which was held in association with the Bahrain Golf Association.

The tournament was split into three main categories, with under 21s and under 16s competing on the Montgomerie championship course and younger or less experienced golfers playing on the 9 hole Wee Monty par 3 course. Taimur Malik (159) was the runner up in the under 16 division with Ali Babtain (61) winning the Wee Monty competition and Habiba Maher (87) winning the girl’s title.

“It was fantastic to see so many juniors competing - there were some very good scores and lots of potential for the future,” commented Sohail Singh, the Royal Golf Club’s Tournament Coordinator.

“Congratulations to Ali and all the prize winners and thank you to the Bahrain Golf Association for their help with this fantastic event.”

The tournament prize giving ceremony took place in the Club’s Majlis function room where Bahrain Golf Association representative Daij Khalifa was on hand to distribute the prizes.

Results: Under 16: 1 Ali Al Kowari (74+80=154), 2 Taimur Malik (79+80=159), 3 Eid Adel Meftah (85+82=167). Best Nett: Ronan Smith (73+65=138). Under 21: 1 Saud Al Sharif (75+83=158), 2 Fahad Al Hakam (82+82=164), 3 Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed (85+79=164). Best Nett: Ali Al Hakam (70+78=148). Wee Monty: 1 Ali Babtain (31+30=61), 2 Ali Ahmed Abdulla (38+31=69), 3 Abdulrazak Al Mahmood (34+37=71). Best Girl: Habiba Maher (41+46=87).
