Kuwait finds new oil field
Kuwait City : Energy-rich Kuwait on Thursday announced the discovery of a new oil and gas field in the west of the desert emirate.
Exploratory tests carried out in the new field of Al-Jathathil have proved "encouraging and of high economic viability", said the state's Kuwait Oil Company.
"The quantity of oil and gas should have doubled by the end of the tests," KOC said in a statement carried by official news agency KUNA, without giving an estimate for the field's reserves.
Kuwait is currently pumping about 2.8 million barrels of oil per day and sits on 6.8 percent of world reserves, according to estimates from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
