Prostitution: Jail term reduced on appeal
Manama : The High Criminal Appeals Court has reduced the jail sentence of an Indonesian woman convicted of prostitution on appeal. Her initial sentence included five years in prison, but the appeals court commuted it to only one year. The woman arrived in Bahrain to work as a maid. But she fled her sponsor’s house and began prostitution. An Asian man was reportedly bringing customers for her. She said that she was having sex with them for amounts ranging between BD10 and BD14. “We were splitting the money and there was a driver transporting me to the customers,” the 34-year-old woman said.
She was charged with living on prostitution and living illegally in Bahrain, for which she was sentenced to extra 10 days behind bars.
