Bahrain releases Salah Al Khawaja
Manama : Bahraini authorities have released Salah Al Khawaja after five years in jail in a case related to Bahrain’s protests in 2011.
He is the brother of Abdul Hadi Al Khawaja, former president and co-founder of the now-dissolved Bahrain Centre for Human Rights.
The Al Khawaja family posted a photo on Twitter on Saturday of Salah in a car with family members. The family said they had received a call telling them to pick Salah up in the morning.
The Bahraini government has not released any statement on the issue.
Salah is not a prominent political figure or activist, but he comes from a political family. His brother Abdul Hadi is serving a life sentence on terror charges and his niece, Zainab, was detained last week and faces up to three years in prison on multiple charges.
