Jail term of car arsonists reduced
Manama : Three defendants implicated in burning two cars belonging to a municipal candidate during 2014’s elections have had their jail terms reduced. Their initial verdicts included 10 years in prison for each of them.
However, they were given only three years behind bars instead. The trio is said to have been among 15 masked vandals, who attacked the vehicles on October 23 2014, pouring petrol on them before setting them on fire with firebombs.
The first and second defendants admitted during interrogation to their involvement in the crime. Investigations revealed that the culprits were transferred to the area by a truck. The damage caused to the vehicles were estimated at around BD3,500. Seven other defendants were put on trial in connection with this case. They are, however, still at large and were slapped with 10 years in prison in absentia.
