Bahrain jails 5 for ATM robbery
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced five Bahraini defendants to three years behind bars each for robbing an ATM belonging to a Bahrain-based bank. Ironically, the defendants broke the machine, only to find that it was empty.
The case remained for very long time unsolved, as the defendants were wearing masks at the time of the robbery. But the first defendant was always bragging about his criminal heroics while he was in jail in connection with a different case.
He told his fellow inmates that he along with others broke an ATM, and it was empty. One of the inmates, who were listening to him, informed the police about it.
He initially denied being involved in the robbery, saying that he had only saw the men, who tried to steal the money from the ATM. But later he managed to identify the men involved in the crime as the robbery was recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the bank.
From the footage, detectives found his involvement also. It was confirmed by his accomplices, who conceded that he was the mastermind of the operation.
