Old Manama Souq plan approved

Manama : A plan to turn Manama Souq into a trade hub and tourism destination had been unveiled yesterday. The scheme was approved during a meeting, which brought together Bahrain Authority for Tourism and Exhibitions (BATE) Acting Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa and the team in charge of the Old Manama Souq Development project.

The meeting was attended by Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Old Souqs Development Committee Chairman Khalid Al Zayani and other members. MP Ahmed Qarata and Manama Trustees Chairman Mohammed Al Khozai were also present. 

Urban and Old Souqs development expert Hank Dittmar staged a presentation on plans to revamp Manama Souq and turn it into a trade hub and tourism destination without losing its urban identity. 

Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa said that a comprehensive plan had been endorsed to develop the old Manama Souq in cooperation with the private sector, represented by the (BCCI) Old Souqs Development Committee and other concerned parties.
