Bahraini men jailed in bar fight

ManamaTwo Bahraini men involved in a manhandling case have had their appeals rejected. But the first defendant saw his jail term reduced from three years to only 10 days, while his co-defendant’s six months behind bars was upheld.

The pair had filed a complaint against each other following a squabbling in a hotel bar, involving both of them. The second defendant accused the first defendant, a security man serving in the hotel, of beating him up while he was drinking in the bar.

He claimed that the incident took place after he requested the security man to evict some Asian women, who sat with him in the same table without permission. However, the first defendant gave a different account of events.

“I was on duty in the bar, and suddenly a verbal argument broke out in one of the tables,” the security man told the prosecutors. “When I went to settle it, I was attacked by him (the second defendant) and by other unknown men who were with him,” he added.

A medical report shows that the second defendant suffered a broken nose after the row.
