Bahrain PM receives Flame of Peace Award

ManamaThe Association for the Furtherance of Peace President Archduchess Herta Margarete presented the Flame of Peace Award to Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa  bin Salman Al Khalifa here yesterday. Prince Khalifa is the first Arab Prime Minister to receive the prestigious honour for his crucial role in enhancing humanitarian work, promoting peace and strengthening humanitarian relations among people of the world. The Flame of Peace Award is instituted by the Habsburg of the former Austrian Empire.

The award ceremony, held at Gudaibiya Palace, was attended by the Association for the Furtherance of Peace Vice-President Archduke Sandor von Habsburg, Ministers, Speaker of the Council of Representatives Ahmed Al Mulla, Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, senior State officials and Editors-In-Chief of local newspapers.

Receiving the award, HRH Premier appreciated the efforts exerted by the Association for the Furtherance of Peace to promote the cultures of peace and peaceful co-existence across the world. “The award reasserts Bahrain’s distinguished status as a peace-loving country that backs efforts to strengthen the pillars of global peace.”

“Displacement and forced migration are the result of terrorism and some policies also ignited tensions, led to the destruction of countries and affected people’s destiny,” remarked the Prime Minister on the occasion.

The Prime Minister stressed that terrorism is alien, man-made and has nothing to do with religions, which commend co-existence and harmony among humans. “People of the region are pacifist, and share interests with other countries of the world.”

Archduchess Herta Margarete commented that the Premier deserved the award for his leading role in consolidating humanitarian work and peace at the world level. “Prince Khalifa enjoys global respect and appreciation. The Prime Minister has a rich record laden with distinguished achievements,” she said, adding that the Association for the Furtherance of Peace is proud of the achievements of the Prime Minister as a supporter of humanitarian works.

Later, Deputy Prime Minister HH Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa unveiled, on behalf of the Premier, plaque of the “Flame of Peace Monument” with Herta Margarete and Sandor von Habsburg outside the Bahrain National Theatre.
