Fire at Salmaniya Medical Complex parking lot
Manama : A fire broke out at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) parking lot yesterday evening. However, no injuries have been reported.
The Health Ministry stated that the security personnel at the complex and Civil Defence firefighters controlled the fire, which caused property losses.
SMC Safety and Security Officer Khalid Al Muraisal said security guards noticed the flames engulfing one of the cars at the complex’s parking lots near the Hereditary Blood Diseases Centre at the hospital at 5.45pm yesterday.
“The fire was dealt with and the Civil Defence was notified immediately. They extinguished the fire in a short time,” added Al Muraisal.
He confirmed that the accident did not cause any injuries to any of the 1,200 patients at the hospital. Al Muraisal added that a report is being prepared by SMC in cooperation with the Civil Defence Directorate in Interior Ministry to ascertain the cause of the fire.
However, Al Muraisal said the fire started in a patient’s vehicle. He added that the initial information indicated that the patient carelessly left the car unattended, while he entered the hospital to receive his treatment. He said two other vehicles were damaged in addition to the patient’s car.
He called upon SMC visitors to commit to the internal safety rules and standards. He said that such accidents could cause a huge number of lives in case it was not controlled in a proper way.
