Al Wehda qualify for knockout stage

Al Wehda scored a late winner through Ali Ahmed to defeat Fast Link 2-1 in the second round of Group A matches to qualify for the knockout stages of the first Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games and the eighth edition of Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Football Championship (Nasser 8) last night at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
Al Wehda opened the scoring early on in the ninth minute through Mohammed Hussain and held on to the lead until half-time.
In the second half, Fast Link revived their hopes when Ali Muneer equalised three minutes after the restart, only for Ali Ahmed to slot home a late winner three minutes from time to secure qualification to the next round.
Al Wehda have six points after its two games, while Fast Link have yet to open its account losing both of its matches.
Today in the second round of matches in Group B action, three-time winner Al Zilzal take on Al Zaeem at 5.45pm and Ahlam Batelco play one-time winner Al Fakhar at 8pm in Isa Town.
The event is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al  Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
The football tournament concludes on July 3 and three other sports are being played in the championships.
Basketball will be played at the Bahrain Basketball Association in Umm Al Hassam and concludes on 1 July, handball takes place at the Bahrain Handball Association in Umm Al Hassam and concludes on June 23 and volleyball is at Bahrain Volleyball Association in Isa Town with the final on June 30.
