132 illegal taxi drivers arrested
Manama: The General Director of Traffic Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa has announced the arrest of 132 illegal taxi drivers of various nationalities. They were referred to the Public Prosecutor and the court sentenced them to up to one month in jail and a BD1,000 fine. The non-Bahraini convicts will be deported after serving their sentence.
He said the department continued to monitor such violations that put the livelihood of registered Bahraini taxi drivers at risk. He also said that the department would continue to organise campaigns to act against violators in cooperation with the security directorates and relevant authorities. (MOI)
