Woman’s appeal upheld in drug case
Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court upheld the jail time issued against an Asian national, convicted of bringing illicit drugs to Bahrain.
The accused was arrested trying to smuggle 805 grams of shabu at the Bahrain International Airport.
The Thai woman, aged 32, evoked the suspicions of a customs police officer upon her arrival in Bahrain.
Besides the unlawful drugs, a digital scale and tools used to smoke drugs were seized from her.
“I received the drugs from a woman in Malaysia, who requested me to deliver it to a woman in Bahrain,” the woman claimed during questioning.
“She told me that the woman would call me when I land in Bahrain,” she added.
The woman was sentenced earlier to three years in prison and was fined also BD3000. She was ordered to be deported after her jail term ends.
