Employees blame stress at work

ManamaEmployees are blaming stress at work as one of the main reasons for their unhealthy lifestyle, according to a recent survey.

The survey carried out by Bayt.com revealed that a majority of the employees are blaming their managers and their work for their unhealthy lifestyle.

About 96 per cent of professionals who participated in the survey said that they believe it is the employer’s responsibility to promote an employee’s health and wellness.

About 30pc of the respondents said that their busy schedule was the reason for not being able to make more healthy life choices. While 15.8pc said it was because of lack of management support, 10.6pc cited a lack of exercise facilities near their workplace as the reason.

“In terms of health, we can conclude that managers are perceived to set the tone for a healthy lifestyle inside and outside the workplace,” said Bayt.com Vice President of Employer Solutions Suhail Masri.

“When the prevailing management philosophy is based on healthy lifestyle choices, leaders within an organisation can direct employees by example and guide them in making decisions that promote increased wellness and happiness,” he said.

Over 8,000 people from the GCC region participated in the survey.

The participating countries included Bahrain, Saudi Arabia UAE and Qatar.
