Cook gets life sentence for selling drugs
Manama : An Iranian cook, who was arrested for selling unlawful drugs, has been jailed for life.
The defendant was tried with two other Iranian nationals in the same case, and the High Criminal Court sentenced one of them to three years in prison, while the other one received only one year.
The trio had been arrested in connection with possessing as well as peddling drugs following a tip-off to the Anti-Drugs Department at the Ministry of Interior.
The cook had opium in his possession intended to be sold. After his arrest, the other two Iranian men were nabbed following investigations.
Police seized cash and illicit drugs from them during a raid in their residences.
The other two men were spared from the selling charge, thus they were given lighter sentences. The court slapped a fine of BD5,000 against the cook while the other two were given BD1,000 fine each.
