Posing as doc, restaurant staff cons bank
Manama : An Egyptian restaurant employee has conned a local bank of at least BD31,000 after pretending to be a medical doctor, according to court files. The Egyptian man is believed to have forged his job description that is mentioned in his passport, editing it to a medical doctor.
He presented it with other fake documents to the bank in a bid to buy a luxury car worth almost BD27,000 and a credit card with credit limit of BD4,000, as per the court records. Prosecutors say that the documents include a salary certificate showing that he was earning BD1941. Meanwhile, the bank found that he had fled the country in the vehicle that he purchased.
He also used the entire credit limit in the credit card before fleeing. The bank officials said in their complaint that his paperworks were found fake after he stopped paying the monthly amount to cover the loan. Police officers found later that he was only a restaurant employee. The defendant was referred to the High Criminal Court, but he will be tried in absentia. He has been charged with fraud and forgery.
