Bahraini teenagers slapped with jail sentences in drugs case
Manama : A Bahraini teenager has been slapped with 10 years in prison for selling drugs to an undercover police officer. His two friends, aged 20 and 21, were tried in connection with the same case, but were jailed for only one year in prison each because they were held guilty only of consuming.
The trio landed in police net following a tip-off sent to the Anti-Narcotic Department at the Ministry of Interior. Initially, the teenager was contacted by an undercover agent, who requested drugs from him at an amount of BD100.
The 19-year-old was tracked by vice squads after he handed over the drugs to the agent. He was later seen accompanying his co-defendants, and police officers pounced on all of them.
The 20 and the 21-year-old defendants, however, stated that they were with him because he offered to sell hashish to them.
According to court files, all the defendants failed a drug test.
The first defendant was charged with peddling drugs, while the others were indicted of only consuming. The teenager was also fined BD5,000 by the court, while his co-defendants were fined BD1,000 each.
