Indian teacher retires after 35 years in Bahrain

Manama: The Indian School Bahrain (ISB) bid farewell to a much-loved teacher who retired after 35 years of exemplary service. Laila Punnoose has taught generations of students during her time at the school. ‘I enjoyed every moment of teaching and my students all over the world now fondly remembers the old school days, and often communicates with me through social media platforms," Ms Laila told DT News.  "As a teacher, I feel blessed when I feel the love of my students around the world," she added.

She came to Bahrain in March 1979 and started her career at the ISB in 1980 as an English teacher (Middle Section) where she continued until her retirement on March 31. In the beginning, she used to teach Social Studies as well besides English. She was  very much liked by the students because of her nice behaviour, disciplined nature and attitude. 

She has served as a class coordinator, faculty coordinator and in the academic committee member at ISB.

Hailing from a family of teachers, her father N P Abraham was a professor of Economics at the St Xavier’s College, in Mumbai. 
Laila Punnoose will return to her hometown on April 29. ISB staff club organised a ceremony to bid farewell to the teacher. 
 
Laila Punnoose, who hails from Angamali, Ernakulam, from the south Indian state of Kerala, is the wife of late Punnoose Thomas who worked here as a credit controller at Eastern Asphalt and Mixed Concrete Company WLL (EAMCO).

Her daughters  Divya and Deepa, currently settled in the US and Australia respectively, were former ISB students.

Her son Don did his schooling in Sacred Heart School in Isa Town.
