Calling all segments of the society to join hands to combat terrorism, the parliamentarians took a unanimous stand against terrorism following Parliament Council’s weekly meeting in Gudaibiya yesterday. The meeting was chaired by the council’s speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla and was attended by Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi, Energy Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza and Parliament and Shura Councils Affairs Minister Ghanim Al Buainain.

In their statement, MPs condemned all forms of terrorism and saluted Interior Ministry personnel for their immaculate efforts in protecting the nation, referring to the recent arrest of a 14-member terrorist cell, Al Ashtar Brigades, which was responsible for the killing of policemen and terrorising the public throughout three years.

The council hailed the head of security authorities and Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa for his directives, which resulted in foiling the terrorist group’s plot against the security of the country.

Reminding of the aftermaths of terrorist attacks, the MPs commented: “The vigilance of security authorities is a source of comfort to the people of Bahrain. As we know that despite the dangers around us, we are safe.”

“Whoever is involved in such acts that aim to destabilise the nation’s peace and security should be held accountable,” the lawmakers opined.

The council also highlighted the important role of religious institutions in combating terrorism. They called for globally unifying efforts against terrorism, adding that “there is no religion or homeland for terrorism.”

As reported earlier, Interior Minister recently announced the arrest of 14 Bahrainis, who are taking orders from two leaders in Iran to execute terrorist attacks against the police and the public.

In their confessions, the group members said that they had received field military training in Iraq by the global terrorist organisation Hezbollah.

They had been responsible for killing several policemen and injuring dozens through terrorist activities in the past three years.
