Bahraini artist delves deep into beauty and ugliness

ManamaAl Riwaq Art Space is currently showcasing Bahraini artist Ahmed Anan’s abstract art work, titled “Conceal and Reveal”, in Adliya.

The exhibition, which began with an official opening at 7pm on April 5, will continue daily until May 5. Those interested may pop in to Al Riwaq Art Space to view the paintings any time between 10am and 10pm.

Anan’s artistic theme centres around two seemingly opposite ideas – ugliness and beauty – and how, as a society, and in every aspect of human life, these two opposing ends of the spectrum are actually inverted. He proposes what we reveal as beautiful and acceptable is actually not so, and vice versa – that what we conceal as “too ugly” is actually, in reality, beautiful.

This is a radical idea and one that is quite groundbreaking in our increasingly superficial world.

Get a fresh perspective with Anan’s incredible and eye-opening work. As the poet Cesar A Cruz once said, “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

In a nutshell, this is what Anan’s work is about – seeing beyond the façade to the essence within.
