Bahrain marks World Health Day

Manama:  Bahrain today joined the other countries in marking the World Health Day, which falls on April 7. The 2016 edition is being celebrated under the theme "Beat the Diabetes", to shed light on the alarming incidence of the disease and urge global efforts to halt the rise in diabetes.

The World Health Day, a global health awareness day, has been celebrated every year on 7 April, ever since the World Health Organization (WHO), was first established in 1948. The global awareness campaign, which is an opportunity to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health, engages all societies in activities that contribute to better health standards.

Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh patronised a ceremony in the presence of senior officials and employees. She commended the dedicated efforts of the medical staff to diagnose diabetes, treat patients and reduce health complications resulting from the disease.

She stressed the ministry's resolve to step up preventive campaigns, improve therapeutic standards and enhance healthcare for diabetic children and adults. She urged the public and private sectors to work hand in hand with the ministry to Beat Diabetes.
