Former Batelco CEO dies

ManamaFormer Batelco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rashid Abdulla died of a heart attack on Wednesday. His funeral was held yesterday morning.

Abdulla’s entire career was spent with Batelco, the company he loved and dedicated his life to. In 1979, he entered the company as a student with Batelco’s former shareholder, Cable & Wireless. 

He spent 10 years with Batelco’s sister company in Kuwait as Managing Director of Qualitynet before he took on the role of CEO for the Bahrain operation, leading the company until his retirement.

In his early years at the company, he took up an engineering role. Since then, he has taken up various management roles during his time at the company. 

He drew attention when he brought great success to Qualitynet. He was appointed as the CEO at Batelco in Bahrain in January 2011 and attained tremendous success. In 2013, he was instrumental for the launch of 4G LTE network in Bahrain.
