‘Little India’ to entertain visitors at Bab Al Bahrain on Saturdays

Manama“Little India,” which is a cultural project initiated and supported by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), will be hosted by the market at Bab Al Bahrain every Saturday until April 30.

The project aims to celebrate and document the role of the Indian community – in relation to the history and progress of Bahrain – as well as to boost cultural tourism in the Kingdom.

There will be live music, food, arts, shopping and a wonderful array of Indian festivities every Saturday, from 4pm to 8pm at Bab Al Bahrain (just off Tijjar Avenue) in the Manama Souq. All the participants are required to be of Indian heritage or have an Indian-inspired theme for their stall.

As part of the project, historical areas in the old Manama Souq will be decorated in order to attract expatriates and Bahraini residents, as well as tourists visiting Bahrain. The attractions at the site include the beautiful architecture of the historical houses and the traditional shops.

‘Little India’ also includes leisure activities – such as renting bicycles to discover the alleys of the old Manama Souq, smartly equipped with baskets and bags for shopping as well.

The Indian community has contributed to Bahrain’s economy, its infrastructure, as well as its social and cultural history. This project will celebrate the history and the enduring relationship between Bahrainis and Indians and show the continued commitment to strengthening these valued ties.
