Hitchhiker gets 5 years in prison for stealing wallet
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced a Bahraini hitchhiker to five years in prison after being held guilty of robbery.
The 27-year-old defendant is said to have stolen a wallet containing BD240 from a man who offered him a lift.
The victim, who is serving in Bahrain Defence Force, said the defendant had initially asked him if he would like to have sex with prostitutes.
“I was driving my car on the Exhibition Road. Suddenly, he came to me and asked me if I wanted to have sex with prostitutes. I replied ‘no’, and he entered the car without my permission,” the defendant said. “He requested me to drop him at the end of the road, I accepted. But I didn’t notice that my wallet got stolen,” he added.
The convict has apparently used the victim’s CPR to get himself a rental vehicle that he abandoned in Shakhura after using it for two days. The defendant was held guilty of robbery and forgery.
