Bahraini woman jailed for life for murder

Manama : A 31-year-old Bahraini woman accused of killing her friend has been slapped with life sentence in jail. The woman was put on trial after the 57-year-old friend was found dead in his Riffa apartment.

According to court files, the woman killed the Bahraini man following a brawl in his apartment in March 2015. The murder reportedly happened when the man refused to let the woman leave the apartment without having sex.

The woman allegedly began sleeping with the man in his Riffa apartment after she  developed a relationship with him over phone.

The woman claimed during interrogations that their relationship grew after the man promised to find her a new job when she was working as a bus driver.

“He called me up requesting to extend my service to his nephew. I told him that I had stopped transporting students. But he went on calling me, and told me that he could get me a new job as a cook in his friend’s restaurant. So I met him in the restaurant, and since then our relationship grew and we began dating,” the defendant told prosecutors earlier.

She added: “I knew he was married and had children.”

Two months before the murder, the woman started living with the man in his apartment as his wife and children went to live in another apartment.

“I insisted him to marry me, but he refused. On the day of the incident, he got drunk and forced me to have sex but I wanted to leave. He blocked my way, and then a physical fight broke out between us. He pulled my hair and I pushed his chest. He fell on his stomach and I jumped on him and broke his neck,” she stated.

Her crime came to light after she had told another man about the incident.

The latter filed a complaint against her.
