'No' to public sports field in Bahrain

Manama : A proposal to establish public group games fields came a cropper after it was rejected by the government recently.

The parliamentary proposal to set up fields in public places for football, basketball and volleyball sports was initially rejected by MP Isa Turki back in 2015, as he said “the country isn’t in a fit security or economic condition to have such facilities.”

However, the government replied to the Council of Representatives yesterday stating that there are 53 sports clubs and 35 youth centres in different parts of the Kingdom that have such facilities.

“Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry has established many similar projects lately in all four governorates,” the government’s reply mentioned.

It explained that volleyball halls, basketball courts, artificial grass football fields and gymnasium halls were recently established in Bani Jamrah, Karzakkan, Damistan, Aali and Saar areas in the Northern Governorate.

“Similar projects were also completed in Isa Town, East Riffa, Hidd, Muharraq, Sanabis, Juffair, Sanad, Nabih Saleh and Manama. The ministry also has a bundle of future projects that will be implemented once the budget is allocated,” said the government.

Anyway, these replies will be discussed openly in the next parliament weekly session on Tuesday.
