Teacher who (almost) never took a day off in 33 years retires from Bahrain

Manama : A teacher who (almost) never took a day off in her decades of dedicated service has bid farewell to the Indian School Bahrain (ISB).

Davinder Kaur Saini (DK Saini), a much-loved Hindi teacher in the Middle Section, has been teaching for 33 years.

She is the wife of late Manohar Singh Saini who worked at ESB International Consulting Engineers.

When Mr Singh passed away in an accident in Bahrain in 2011, Mrs Saini was given 'Expatriate' status at the school.

"I am thankful to Abraham John who was the chairman of the Indian School Bahrain at that time and the staff who supported me during those days," she said.

"That was the only time I had to take a leave of absence.

"Other that that, by God’s grace, I could continue my service uninterrupted."

Originally from the Indian state of Punjab, Saini is now settled in Mumbai.

She came to Bahrain in 1983 after marriage and joined the school the following year.

There was a break in service due  to personal reasons so as per school records her joining date is January 20, 1986.

Mrs Saini’s daughters Purnita Kaur Saini and Harpreet Kaur Saini are former students of ISB.

Purnita who was the Economics topper at the school in Class 12, is currently working at CitiBank Bahrain.

Harpreet is settled in Mumbai.

"I did my best teaching the students of the Indian School and I was passionate about the noble profession of teaching," she said.

"Bahrain is a beautiful country and life was very comfortable for me."

To her beloved students all over the world she says "Work hard to achieve success."

Mrs Saini will be in Bahrain for a few more days after which she will return to India.
