Bahrain keen to shine in Ironman

Manama: Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has stressed that preparations for the Ironman African Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa tomorrow are in full swing.

He affirmed the keenness of Bahrain team, under his captaincy, to ensure positive participation in the championship in which a host of professionals will take part.

Shaikh Nasser expressed confidence in the team to boost Bahrain’s reputation in triathlon sport thanks to their past experience, unparalleled enthusiasm and high spirit to stand out in the competitions.

As part of his preparations for the race, and in a test trial of the official cycling track, Shaikh Nasser rode 45 kilometres in a training session to test his physical fitness. He also attended, alongside Bahrain team members, a technical meeting by the organising committee and got informed about the three stages of the world event.

He also toured Ironman Expo, which is held on the sidelines of the world championship, and praised the ironman-related items on display which shed light on what is needed for this sport.

The organising committee of the championship announced that participants will get the needed equipment for the three stages today in preparation for tomorrow’s race.

The course comprises a 3.8km swim, 180.2km of cycling and a 42.2km run.
