BOC attends Annual Medical Student Conference

ManamaThe Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) attended on Thursday the Arabian Gulf University’s Fourth Annual Medical Student Conference.

It was staged over three days at Al Jawhara Centre for Molecular Medicine, Genetics and Inherited Disorders in Salmaniya and organised by the university under the patronage of Lt. General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health under a new slogan ‘Sports Medicine’. BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar delivered the opening remarks in the first session, emphasising the keenness of the committee to actively take a major role in building a sports medicine society that contributes to deepening the concept and its application in the GCC.

Askar also highlighted the steps undertaken by the committee, which led to massive development in various areas, including the National Coaching Programme and sports medicine, both featured at Nasser bin Hamad Scientific Research Award in the field of sports. BOC National Sports Medicine Centre’s Dr Francisco Chapman and Dr Vladimir Suarez Felipe of Cuba delivered workshops over two days on muscle examination using Cybex technology.

Anti-Doping specialist Zaynab Anwar presented a workshop on the threats of doping and its influence on the athletes health.

BOC’s other contribution was by Sports Training and Development Centre Director and international instructor Nabeel Taha, who presented a seminar on psychological influence on injured athletes and positive psychology.

Organised for the fourth successive year with 600 participants from Bahrain and the GCC.
