1200 students attend drug prevention drive

ManamaThe Ministry of Education has organised the 10th edition of its drug prevention programme with the participation of more than 1,200 students from public and private schools.

The programme held under the slogan “I am happy with my Faith and not with Addiction” aimed at preventing the dangers of drug addiction.

“The programme was highly effective,” confirmed  organisers of the programme while highlighting the constant support provided by Bahraini leadership, Education Minister Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi and other officials for its success. The move, according to the ministry, comes in a bid to spread awareness among primary and secondary school students about the dangers of drug addiction, besides creating positive attitude towards volunteering in the community.

Students participated in more than 5,000 education awareness panels, poetry shows, plays, performances and art exhibition with the support of government officials and experts in drug prevention. 

Commenting on the event, Chairman of the Psychological Counselling Group of the Education Ministry, Jassim Al Mohannadi, said, “This is one of the most successful events   conducted by the Ministry in which students responded on a wide scale. The programme recorded a daily increase in participation, with students from 40 public and private schools participating.”

He also stressed that the administration provided full support in spreading  awareness among students and parents about the social and moral dangers of drugs as well as its recovery procedures through collective activity of students.

The event was held at the hall of the Education Ministry in Isa Town with the involvement of the Interior Ministry, the Southern Governorate, the Department of Health Promotion, the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry and the Public Prosecution.
