Surprise inspection at local markets

ManamaWorks, Municipalities and Urban Planning Ministry announced yesterday that it’s conducting surprise inspection visits to local markets to ensure its commitment to the shrimp-crab ban, which is in effect from March 15- May 15.

Marine Resources Assistant Undersecretary Abdullah Abdulatif said the ban comes as per the instructions of the Cabinet to preserve food security and develop marine resources.

“The inspection visits are to preserve marine resources from environmental and human risks,” Abdulatif said.

He explained the first inspection campaign was conducted at Manama Central Market by the Ministry’s monitoring and inspection department in coordination with the Capital General Secretariat.

The official confirmed that more visits to the remaining local markets would be conducted in the upcoming days. Abdulatif called upon fishermen and sailors to commit to the ban period and contribute in protecting the environment.
