Policeman dead, two injured in terror attack in Karbabad

Manama: A policeman was killed and two others were injured in a terrorist attack that occurred in Karbabad area yesterday.

Interior Ministry said the policemen were on duty and described their injuries as serious. 

The ministry confirmed the incident on its official Twitter account saying, “One policeman was dead and two others were seriously injured in a Molotov cocktail attack.”

“The attack targeted on-duty police in Karbabad. Investigators are on the scene,” the ministry stated, confirming that the attack took place at 6pm and the two injured policemen were transferred to hospital.

The ministry added, “The attack was conducted by a group of what can only be described as terrorists, who hurled Molotov cocktails at the policemen who were securing the roads and protecting property in the village.  An investigation was launched to identify the suspects and bring them to justice.

According to local online news networks, the deceased was identified as Mohammed Tanweer. However DT News couldn’t independently verify the correctness of this information. 

Additionally, a short video clip was posted online showing a police patrol vehicle on flames, while other policemen gathered at the site. 

Several local social media networks claimed that the video was of the incident in Karbabad. 

Following the incident, Police presence in the area were intensified and several checkpoints were set on the entrances to the seaside village.
