Bahrain is ready for national emergencies!
Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan, who chaired the 36th meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC) yesterday, highlighted importance of the National Alarm System that is dedicated to procedures and preparations for emergencies.
The meeting, which was attended by panel members as well as representatives of Ministries and concerned authorities, was part of the ongoing work of the committee to inspect the readiness to deal with emergencies and pre-planning to prevent and get ready for them.
Al Hassan said that there is a need to have a security system that should be determined by a specialised committee and steps that should be taken by all concerned Ministries.
He asserted the importance to form a team that is chaired by Deputy General Director of Civil Defence to set national exercises with different scenarios.
During the meeting, the Assistant Undersecretary of Hospitals at the Ministry of Health, Dr Waleed Al Manaa, briefed on Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) corona virus.
Al Manaa recalled that one such case was reported in the Kingdom recently, saying that the guideline of World Health Organisation was followed. He added that the infected was transferred to his country, while all the associates were tested negative.
The committee members agreed to have a disaster management media plan and reinforcement cooperation of International Atomic Energy Agency to benefit from expertise and experiences in this field. They also agreed to organise specialised conferences and courses in Bahrain to enhance capability in dealing with disasters.
