Bahrain cleric arrested for hate speech
Manama : The Public Prosecution has sent a local cleric for trial on grounds of inciting hatred against the constitutional system of the Kingdom of Bahrain and insulting a government entity.
He is expected to appear before the Lower Criminal Court on May 2 and he is in police custody following his arrest in the event of a sermon he delivered, although he didn’t have permission to address worshipers.
His sermon reportedly contained anti-government remarks. The cleric also degraded the Ministry of Interior as well as the constitutional system of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The defendant was earlier ordered to be detained for seven days, pending investigations into his sermon.
